Kelly Armstrong, what have you started?
Wow. I am very intrigued by this series. Spirits are everywhere, and people are designated to be there peacekeeper and barge between worlds. They are the true governing force of the land.
That same concept is what made me take away some spirit from my review. They talk about the Seeker and Keeper, how their sole jobs are to talk to the spirits, to listen to them and to obey. Yet in this opening novel to the Age of Legends we barely here a word from the spirits nor are the Seeker or Keeper very keen on following the few words of advice given to them from these omniscient spirits.
Instead, we are faced with dark forces–the harbinger of evil and dark nature by sorcery.
We travel with four unlikely characters as they come together to face Shadow Walkers, Death Worms, Thunder Hawks, and Mercenaries. A Seeker, Ashlyn, with her ancient hound Tova, and the Keeper, Moria, her ancient cat Daigo. When their village of Edgewood is attacked by these Shadow Walkers–evil spirits inhabiting the dead, and everyone is killed (including their father) and the children are missing, the girls set out to find them and to figure out what is going on. But they were separated in the attack. Ashlyn is with an exiled– a convicted thief, heading across the wastes after the children. And Moira is with a warrior guard, Gavril Kitsune as they have to retrace her sisters steps through the village and follow them across the Wastes.
Romance blooms between the two pairs. Gavril and Moira reminded me of grade schoolers who pulled hair or threw paper at the person you liked. And Ronan and Ashlyn was just desperate. He wants her so badly, but she’s so blinded by continual rejection in the past that she brushes off every move he makes.
One of them betrays the group? Or is it more than meets the eye?
I can’t wait to find out in the next installment and I hope you or any other fantasy lover will read this as well!!
Keep letting that ink run free!!
